ANDERSON CO., S.C. (WSPA) – Two people have been arrested after a deputy was almost hit by a stolen vehicle, resulting in a chase on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say 41-year-old Steven Michael Campbell has been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, failure to stop for blue lights, and driving under suspension.
His passenger, 25-year-old Ashley Nicole Gilstrap, was also charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.
According to an incident report, a deputy was approaching the stolen truck on Old Anderson Drive when the driver, Campbell, put the truck in reverse and tried to flee.
Deputies followed Campbell to the intersection of Woodruff Road and Batesville Road where the driver ran out of gas and they were able to place Campbell and his passenger, Gilstrap, in custody.
Gilstrap told deputies that Campbell had $20 worth of heroin in his lap when deputies first attempted a traffic stop and swallowed the drug during the chase.
Campbell is being held at the Greenville County Detention Center and Gilstrap is being held at the Anderson County Detention Center.
