NC Deputy who dies from cancer remembered by Sheriff’s Office

A longtime Haywood County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant passed away Tuesday after a long battle with cancer.

Lieutenant Michael Price was lovingly referred to as “Goon” by friends, family and coworkers.

Price served at the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office for more than 20 years. Coworkers say he battled cancer for a year.

Sheriff Greg Christopher said “Lieutenant Price was a big man with an even bigger heart, who never met a stranger. Everybody who knows him loves him, as his selfless passion for people was unparalleled.  It was an honor to work with a man who had compassion for those he served,” said Christopher. “Lieutenant Price will forever be a member of the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office family.  Our focus now is on caring for his family and his loved ones in their time of need.”

Lieutenant Price was over Haywood County Courthouse Security and also provided security for judges and other judicial officials.

Lt. Price would have turned 46 this Saturday. Price leaves behind a wife, Saralyn Price, who serves as the Mayor of Maggie Valley.
