GREENVILLE Co., SC (WSPA) — Law enforcement officers from the Upstate will come together Thursday for prayer and fellowship in memory of a fallen brother in blue.
Bob Jones University (BJU) will hold the Allen Jacobs Memorial Prayer Breakfast.
It’s an effort to honor Allen Jacobs. The young Greenville police officer was killed in the line of duty almost a year ago.
Jacobs was shot after he and another officer attempted to speak with a teenager about a gun purchase. Police say the teen, Deontea Mackey, ran and officers chased him. That’s when they say Mackey opened fire.
The memorial prayer breakfast also seeks to recognize law enforcement professionals across Greenville County.
The Allen Jacobs Award of Valor, Public Safety Employee of the Year, Award of Merit, and the Distinguished Achievement Award will be presented at the breakfast.
BJU said in a statement that proceeds from the breakfast will benefit the Allen Jacobs Memorial Scholarship Fund that was created last year at the request of the Jacobs family to help students majoring in criminal justice. Almost $50,000 was raised for the scholarship fund last year.
