Student who ate THC-laced candy at Upstate school taken to hospital

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – Police say a Hillcrest High School student has been charged after giving candy laced with THC to other students.

Simpsonville Police Department said in a news release that four students consumed gummy bear-style candy laced with THC. School resource officers made the discovery on Tuesday.

One student was taken to an area hospital for treatment. There was no immediate word on their condition.

Police say a 15-year-old student gave the laced gummy bear-style candy to three students and also consumed the candy. The student was charged with distribution of marijuana.

A Greenville County Schools spokeswoman says four students have been suspended and recommended for expulsion after the incident.

The district says the school’s principal sent a message to parents asking them to talk with their kids about not accepting candy or other items that are not in a labeled wrapper.
