Berea HS student had stolen gun, ran from deputy says report

Greenville Co. Sheriff’s Office says a firearm was found on a student at Berea High School.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The student is a juvenile and has been arrested.

Greenville Co. Schools says an unloaded gun was found inside a student’s book bag. They say there were no bullets found.

They say another fellow student saw the gun inside the bag and told a teacher.

The School Resource Officer told the student to turn the backpack over to be searched.

The report says the student handed over the backpack and ran.

The SRO says there was a short chase and the student was apprehended without further incident.

Deputies checked the serial number and found put it was stolen.

The student was suspended and recommended for expulsion, according to the school district.

The student is a juvenile so no information will be released on their identity.

They have been charged with:

· Possession of a firearm on School Property

· Unlawful Carrying of a Firearm by an underage Person

· Possession of a Stolen Firearm

· Resisting Arrest

· Disturbing School
