Travel tips for going to the Final Four

GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – Gamecock fans are now rushing to make travel plans so they can follow their team to Phoenix, and cheer them on to what many hope will be another championship win for the Palmetto State.

It certainly won’t be an easy ticket to get, and for those fans working to get book the hotels and flights, it won’t be a cheap ticket either.

Once the clock hit zero, Gamecock fans started booking their hotel rooms for Phoenix.

“We are headed to Phoenix! “This is awesome, first for Gamecocks, what a great day to be to be part of history and see this going down for our Gamecocks!” says fan Diane Jeter.

Finding the cheapest deal may be tough for fans, starting with the flight out west. Travel agents with AAA Carolinas say plane tickets are better out of GSP and Atlanta, but tickets still run anywhere from $1,000-$1,600 a person.

If you’re looking for a place to stay, you need to look at hotels outside of Phoenix because most of them are already full.

“We’ve been seeing things about 15, 20 minutes out in all directions, so you could book that far out. You’re going to have a better bet of spending a lot less further out,” says Hannah Roe, a travel agent with AAA.

When it comes to the tickets, the prices range from $500 to a few thousand dollars for the Final Four and the championship game.. But be careful where you get your tickets from.

“What we’ve seen here in Greenville when the NCAA was here, there were people out front selling tickets, and there’s people online selling tickets such as Craigslist,” says Officer Johnathan Bragg with the Greenville Police.  “When you use those you run the risk of buying fake tickets.”

Especially since fake tickets can look identical to the real ones.

If you’re ready to make the commitment to head to the games, have your credit cards ready. The estimated final cost for a trip to the Final Four is nearly $2,000 for one person.
