Man pulled from pond in Oconee Co., pronounced dead

WESTMINSTER, SC (WSPA) – Firefighters were called to a home in Oconee County after relatives found a man in a pond Friday evening.

According to Oconee County Fire Chief Charlie King, firefighters were called to the property on Cottontail Drive just before 8:00 p.m.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Oconee County Coroner’s Office.

The victim has been identified as Michael S Treadway, 68 of Westminster. He lived at the property where the death occurred.

King says fire and rescue crews performed CPR on the man when they arrived.

According to the coroner’s office, Treadway was mowing the grass with a zero-turn lawnmower when he went down the hill and into the pond. It is believed this incident happened sometime between 4 and 6 p.m.

An autopsy is being performed to determine the official cause of death.
