June 2017 Caring for the Carolinas Award Winner

JACK ROPER
Well hi, Jack Roper here at Clemson Downs. We’re going inside to meet Danielle Matthews.

GWEN KELLEY – EXEC. DIR., CLEMSON DOWNS
We are excited to have Danielle as part of our volunteer team. She does lots of things, pet therapy, reminiscing, bedside companionship with all of our hospice patients…

JULIE GRIFFIN – PROVIDENCE CARE HOME HOSPICE
Reads to them, shows them old stories or pictures from the internet, plays music for them…

DANIELLE MATTHEWS – AWARD WINNER
A lot of them have pets that they’ve lost or can’t bring with them, so then we can look at pictures of my pets and tell funny pet stories, and that really kind of helps bring them out of that isolation that they might have in their room. Especially families not close by and they don’t have people to visit with them very often.

GWEN KELLEY – EXEC. DIR., CLEMSON DOWNS
Our volunteer program is really, really important for our patients. It’s an extension of what we do when we love on our patients for hospice care.

KATHY HUNTER – CLEMSON DOWNS ACTIVITY COORD.
She’s been an awesome volunteer, building relationships with our residents, spending time here, all the while attending Clemson University, getting her degree, and we’re going to miss her. She was just an awesome volunteer.

Courtesy of Bath Fitter, Hardees and Ingles., for working so hard here at Clemson Downs, this is Danielle Matthews, our Caring for the Carolinas award winner for the month of June. But there’s more! There’s more. A free Hardee’s Thickburger, every week for a year. Fill yourself up with that. And listen to the applause, I’m hearing it.
