Georgia couple killed, son hurt in I-85 crash

ANDERSON Co., S.C. (WSPA) — A couple was killed and their son hurt in a crash on Interstate 85.

The accident happened around 11:09 a.m. Monday at mile marker 4 near Fair Play.

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore identified the deceased victims as Austin Wayne Brown and his wife, Jennifer Ann Brown, of  Bainbridge, Georgia.

Their 17-year-old son, Austin Jacob Brown, was in the backseat. He was airlifted to AnMed Health Center. A hospital spokesman said Austin Brown was in fair condition as of Tuesday morning.

Shore said the family was traveling to North Carolina, then to Washington, D.C. on vacation.

The S.C. Highway Patrol says the family’s SUV and a tractor-trailer were traveling north on 85 when the SUV hit the truck in the rear. The Associated Press reports the tractor trailer had mechanical problems and was in the right lane with emergency flashers on.

Austin and Jennifer were entrapped and died at the scene.

The truck driver was not hurt.

No charges will be filed.
