SALEM, SC (WSPA) – There has been a fatal lawnmower accident in Salem, according to Scott Krein with Oconee Co. Emergency Services.
He says it happened on Cross Creek Rd.
The coroner says the 911 call came from the victim’s daughter.
Earl M. Rowland, 82, who lives nearby on Cross Creek Road, was mowing grass on property near the home of his daughter.
Rowland was operating his tractor down a hill toward a pond while mowing.
It appears he made a right turn and the tractor overturned into the pond, according to the coroner.
The coroner says he was pinned beneath the tractor and died at the scene from apparent drowning with blunt force trauma contributing.
No autopsy will be ordered and his manner of death will be classified as accidental.
