LAURENS Co., S.C. (WSPA) – Troopers are investigating a deadly crash in Laurens County.

It happened around 11:21 p.m. Thursday on I-385S near mile marker 12.

Corporal Bill Rhyne with the S.C. Highway Patrol says a 2002 Buick LeSabre was stopped in the road when it was hit in the rear by a tractor trailer headed south on I-385.

Rhyne said the car was knocked off the highway after it was hit. The driver died at the scene.

The coroner’s office identified the victim as Sam Michael Bramlett, 56, of Pinehaven Street Extension in Laurens.

He died of multiple blunt force trauma and the death has been ruled an accident.

He was on his way home from work at the time of the wreck, according to the coroner’s office.

They say they don’t know why the car he was in had stopped on Interstate 385.

Troopers say Bramlett was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The tractor trailer driver was not injured in the wreck.
