SPARTANBURG Co., S.C. (WSPA) — Local and state authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at the Spartanburg County jail.
Coroner Rusty Clevenger said in a release that Ronald Jason Ball was pronounced brain-dead on Tuesday afternoon.
Clevenger said his office has no information that Ball died from an injury caused by another person.
Ball, 47, of Woodruff was being held in the Spartanburg County Detention Center on charges of criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
The coroner’s office says Ball suffered a fall at the jail that did not involve assistance from another person.
The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division has been asked to assist in the investigation.
