Spartanburg Police asking for help in fatal moped crash

SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) – Spartanburg police are asking for your help in their investigation of a fatal moped crash.

The crash happened around 9:16 p.m. July 31 on W.O. Ezell Boulevard.

Witnesses say a yellow truck may have been involved.

Police say James Searcy died in the crash.

Searcy, 50, lived in Cowpens, according to Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger.

Searcy died of closed head trauma and the manner of death has been ruled an accident by the coroner’s office.

Clevenger said police “investigated allegations that another vehicle caused him to swerve or hit (Searcy).” However, the coroner said there’s no evidence of the allegation.
