Woman stabbed 20 times in Asheville, suspect arrested

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) — Police say a suspect has been arrested after a woman was stabbed more than 20 times and her car was stolen in Asheville.

Police responded to a report of a stabbing around 7:50 a.m. Monday on White Fawn Drive. A spokesman with the police department said the victim was stabbed on nearby McCauley Drive.

Officers found a 22-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds. The victim’s vehicle and other items had also been stolen. She was taken to Mission Hospital where police say she was stabilized.

Investigators identified Malik Erik Johnson, 21, as the suspect in the stabbing.

A spokesperson with Asheville Police Department said Johnson was wanted on outstanding warrants in Salisbury, N.C. for first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Asheville police worked with Salisbury Police Department and N.C. State Bureau of Investigation to find Johnson.

He was arrested near Spencer, N.C. in possession of the Asheville woman’s vehicle.

Johnson has been charged with attempted first-degree murder in her stabbing, police say.

Johnson is in the Rowan County Detention Center.
