SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) – Deputies say one person is in custody after a reported shooting at a Spartanburg County motel.

Many viewers reported seeing several law enforcement officers at the Rodeway Inn on New Cut Road on Wednesday morning, as well as nearby businesses.

Lt. Kevin Bobo with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said a shooting was reported at the motel around 7:16 a.m. Wednesday. He said the shooting stemmed from a disturbance that deputies responded to earlier that morning.

The victim refused to be transported to the hospital for treatment, and a suspect has been arrested, Bobo said.

The gun in question was a pellet gun, not an actual firearm, he said.

David Anthony Statzer, 36, of Inman has been charged with two counts each of second-degree assault and battery. According to arrest warrants, he shot a pellet gun at two people.

Deputies say Statzer shot a man in the shoulder with a pellet gun. The shot caused a small wound, according to a report.

Deputies apprehended Stazer soon after he fled the scene.

He denied shooting the victim, but witnesses told deputies they saw him do it.
