2 officers shot near middle school in GA, suspect dead

FOREST PARK, GA (WSPA) – Two officers were shot Wednesday morning near a middle school in Clayton County, Georgia.

According to CBS affiliate WGCL, the suspect was found behind a nearby house dead from a gunshot wound after a search of the area.

Police say the suspect, identified as Jacob Bailey, was on a motorcycle when officers stopped him after responding to a reckless driving call.

Forest Park Police say their officers were shot when they rounded the corner and Bailey opened fire.

One of the officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries while the other was rushed into surgery. That officer’s condition is not known at this time.

The shooting happened near Forest Park Middle School.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.
