One killed, 4 hurt in crash that shut down I-85N in Spartanburg Co.

SPARTANBURG CO., SC (WSPA) – Troopers say one person is dead and at least four others injured in a crash that blocked northbound Interstate 85 in Spartanburg County.

All lanes of I-85 North reopened early Monday morning after the five-vehicle crash at mile marker 59. The crash happened shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday near the BMW Manufacturing plant in Greer.

Troopers say events leading up to the crash are still under investigation as of 6 a.m. Monday.

Five vehicles were involved, including the driver of a 2014 Dodge who was killed in the accident.

The driver killed in the wreck has been identified as 32-year-old Dequincy Raynard Neal of Pelzer by the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.

The S.C. Highway Patrol said a 64-year-old North Carolina man and two passengers in a vehicle were taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center with injuries.

A 16-year-old Fountain Inn teen in a third vehicle was also transported by EMS to Spartanburg Regional. No passengers was in the teen’s vehicle.

A 39-year-old Moore woman was driving a fourth vehicle. There was no word on whether she was injured in the wreck.

Troopers say a truck driver was also involved in the crash. He was reportedly not hurt.
