BUNCOMBE CO., NC (WSPA) – Deputies in Buncombe County are searching for a man they say stole from a Dollar General before later assaulting a deputy with a car.

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect was involved in a larceny at the Dollar General in Candler shortly after 1:30pm Sunday when he was approached by law enforcement.

The Sheriff’s Office says the suspect drove away from the scene and a chase was stopped for safety reasons.

A deputy at the Asheville Outlets later confronted the same suspect who was also suspected in a larceny at that location.

The suspect then assaulted the deputy with his vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say the car is a 2001 Mercedes CLK320 with a temporary paper tag. The vehicle also has damage to the driver’s side rear quarter panel.

Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is asked to call the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.
