Man in custody after shots fired call in Haywood Co.

HAYWOOD COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – Haywood County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a 52-year-old man Thursday following a report of shots fired at a home in the Hemphill Community.

According to a release, deputies responded to a home on Bio Dome Road around 5 p.m. after a concerned neighbor called 911 saying a man outside the home was shooting a gun several times and was acting erratically.

Another call came into 911 saying numerous shots had been fired.

The sheriff’s office requested assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for use of their Bearcat vehicle and the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office SRT Team assisted Waynesville Police Department officers in taking the man into custody.

The man was identified as Kyle Byrd, of Waynesville.

Byrd will be charged with intoxicated and disruptive, going armed to the terror of the public and felony assault by pointing a firearm at a government official.
