Christy is the 24/7 chief meteorologist. You can watch her weeknights 5 – 11.
Christy Henderson is the Chief Meteorologist for Storm Team 7. She joined WSPA in 2003 and oversees all forecasts and on-air weather presentations. She can be seen on 7 News at 5, 5:30 6PM and 7 PM as well as on 7 News at 10 on CW and WSPA at 11:00. In addition to her television duties, she also forecasts the weather for two area radio stations.
Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Christy attended Texas A&M University and earned a B.S. degree in Meteorology in 1995. She began working in television upon graduating.
Christy’s first job was in Waco, Texas. After 8 months of working weekends there she moved to New Orleans and worked at the Fox affiliate, WVUE for more than three years as the weekend meteorologist. It was there where she really became interested in studying tropical weather and she was on the air as Hurricane Danny moved across Plaquemines parish in Southeast Louisiana (1997) and when Hurricane Georges (1998) threatened the New Orleans and coastal areas before making landfall near Biloxi, Mississippi.
From New Orleans, Christy moved on to Atlanta, Georgia, where she spent 3 ½ years as the morning meteorologist on “Good Day Atlanta” and also broadcasted the weather during the noon show each day. Many celebrities stopped by the station for interviews and Christy did the weather with many of them including Donny and Marie, The Rock, Kurt Angle, Ed McMahon and even Barney (the purple dinosaur!).
Christy freelanced in Washington, D.C. and Texas at WJLA-TV and KTVT, the CBS affiliate in Forth Worth before joining WSPA-TV as the Chief Meteorologist. She has won Press Club and Associated Press awards for her presentations. Christy is a member of the American Meteorological Society and is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist.
Christy enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters, Kathryn and Sarah. At home, Pepper, the family dog, keeps the family time exciting! In her spare time – and there’s not much of it – Christy also enjoys cooking, traveling and hiking.
Christy was named South Carolina Broadcaster’s Association Weathercaster of the Year in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011, and was runner up for this award in 2013 and 2014. She was named the SCBA Personality of the Year for 2015.
